..... a while back someone posed the question, What's the next "in" fish in the hobby. Lately i've noticed, or at least it seems that SA/CA keepers are trying to get their hands on either a Jaguar, a Festae, a Flowerhorn, or Peacock Bass......right now which one do you think leads in popularity:D

Well, i can't really say. I'm just getting back into fish keeping after about 30 years of only keeping dogs and kids.. couldn't even keep a hubby till i found the one i have now.. lol.

we found peacock bass in an LFS, in fact, the one i'm going to buy that big catfish from tomorrow (hoping it's a tig). I knew when i saw them that i wanted one, then we started researching peacock bass online and found DMack's utube videos and i just had to have them.. now i have 9.. lol.

i've never been one to follow trends, i usually find something i like and stick with it. and Peacock Bass i LIKE..

People are always looking for something new and intresting but availability is the usual stumbling block along with lack of information. I'm old enough to remember the gasps of amazement and attendant high prices as the first few AF. lake cichlids hit the market.

Once the breeding info was worked out EVERYONE who was anyone in the hobby was raising them. Now 1" examples sell for less than a fancy guppy.

I don't really care for flowerhorns because they represent an artifically created demand.

What I think we in the hobby need to be asking ourselves is how our desire for increasingly rare fish is affecting wild populations.

i live in new york city, so i see flowerhorns EVERYWHERE.

never really seen a true festae in a fish store here. and jaguars are "classics" that are ALWAYS popular.

peacock bass is still rather uncommon here.

of all the 4 options u gave, id say its the pbass "for now" no doubt about that...
its because of neoprodigy and deiselmacks crazy collections and setup that makes most mfk-er want to do and get more pbass!!! it their fault man!!!
its their fault!!! :D

and to add... jaguar is a classic fish that will always be around, true festaes i have to say are a lil hard to find, (i have yet to see one)... and flowerhorns, no offense to those who have them now, but their craze is so over.
