got these two gold /redspot? now successfully made 30 fry...

will they spawn again if i leave them with the fry?

got them to teach bass how to eat pellets.... have not tolerated any tank-mates... thinking of putting one with my solo bass in my 150...

severums....

they are a-holes...

if i separate them less aggro ya?

are the boys or girls tend to be more aggressive?

ideas?

also is he just gold?

Severums are pretty placid, they're not aholes unless they're breeding. :)

so separate n they will be nice? cause they ripped on my nastiest orino bass (9”) i have, a 16” TSN...

There are murderous severums out there for sure even though it’s rare. Separating them should help but if they keep at it, I’d just take them back to the store.

thanks! they even go for my hand when i put it in the tank ?

Heros are like any cichlid, they are aggressive when defending eggs/fry. Separating them may cause the pair to turn on each other. I have had many male Heros destroy their mates when I tried to keep them in "breeding" tanks with just a male and female. You will have to watch them carefully if you choose to isolate them.

Heros can spawn with older fry in the tank but it's not very common. At least not for a few months until the fry are large enough that the pair ignores them or stops caring for them. In some cases, if the pair wants to breed again soon they will eat their existing fry and start over.

The fish in your photo is not a super red.

thank you Ryan!

I currently have 4 ranging 3-4". Within the last two days the pecking order reversed between two. The chased is now the agressor and has taken over where the other use to hang out too.

I would say what you have isn't a super red or gold. It's what I'd say would be marketed as red spotted. I have super red, 3 red spotted, but two barely have spots. I actually like the diversity.

these were an impulse by from only lfs in my area... bought to teach bass to eat pellets...

redspot sounds better? the guy that sold them had them labeled red... something...

the guy is decent looking minus his bad eye has genetic defect... did not notice when buying...

they just don’t play nice with the other fish...
