Thinking of getting a Mbu and just wanted some insight about them. The good the bad?
I think I have a good size tank for one, it's a 6x4.5 footer. Appreciate the info fellas.

They grow very quickly and get massive but that size tank would probably be fine. They are slow swimmers and don't dart suddenly so I think it would work. Watch your tank mates. Choose nonaggressive mid/top swimming fish. Mbu tend to bite fish on the bottom. Make sure to feed plenty of hard foods to keep their beak in check. Plenty of snails, mussels, crayfish etc. My 20" Mbu was one of my fav fish. I'd still have him if I didn't get back into rays.

Agree that seems like a decent size tank for one...

I mean other than giving them some decorations (maybe a cave) in the tank to keep them happy, some random crays and other hard shelled foods and good filtration you should be good...

Just also make sure you have a top to cover the tank, since i've recently heard they might jump the tank...

Nice! Thanks guys! Just very interested in how engaged and smart I have heard these fish are.

MBU's i'm sure are like Fahaka's and once they get to know you, will become very interactive... They really can be dogs of the aquatic world...

Got two growouts right now (separated of course - they will violently kill each other). Definitely one of the most personable fish out there. Come right up to the glass, look you in your soul, and make you feed them lol.

These have been mentioned above but I will stress them again. Great filtration is key, keep nitrates low! And hard foods, clams are great. When they get bigger they crush right through the shells. Shrimp works real well too.

Go for it, Mike. Awesome fish!
