Hey everyone I have a quick question, I've kept both mbu puffer and south American lungfish in the past but never together. I never had problems with my mbu being nippy so was wondering if they do good together? Right now my lung is about 13 inch and tank size is 240 with alot of bichirs and gar please let me know what you think before I pick up another mbu:-)

you have to decide if you are going to take the risk - ive seen mbu's kept with rays and all manner of tankmates and generally there are very little instances of mbu causing damage to tankmates. it usually occurs when feeding as the puffer accidentally bites a tankmate going for the same food.

with that being said if a mbu goes on a rampage your sal and birchirs dont stand much chance at all! and it has been known to happen.

like i said its for you to decide if you want to take a risk.

people have warned me not to add a wolf fish with my cichla but im going to pick one up next week. im prepared to take the risk. if it goes tits up then i have only myself to blame

if you do it i want pics though!

Ummm if it goes tits up, you've murdered your fish and thought nothing of it. Awesome.

he didn't say he would think nothing of it, what he said is that he would only have himself to blame, which is completely different. Also, murder is the wrong word to use. Criminal negligence maybe, if you like to ride the high horse, but the only murderer here is the wolf fish/mbu. That is not to say that he would bear no responsibility for what happened, but he already accepted the responsibility. It seems to me that your attack was unfounded, from a logical standpoint at least.

awesome post!

It wasn't from a high horse stand point, it wasn't an attack, and I was hardly unfounded. He was warned, he knows what will happen, and is going to do it anyway. I think it's perfectly reasonable that a person who loves fish on a fish forum would think it sucks that instead of just getting proper housing for a incompatible type of fish, a person would throw it in with his already existing fish.
Maybe murder was the wrong word, but he is knowingly killing them, just the same. Why not just properly house and provide for what you have, and if you want something else, set up suitable housing for that? I thought that was just part of being a responsible pet owner.
And, lungfishlover, grow up.
