I read about about this combo and I know there a lot of different opinions but I would like to hear about experiences and sizes of fish and tank sizes I've heard they can be good together and also heard it can go very bad.... I love rays and am very interested in the mbu and have the opportunity to get one and would like to see them both together in a tank but I do have several tanks let hear your experiences
Thanks

Hope you have a flame retardant suit, it's going to get hot in here.

I'll start.....

"Your tank's too small"

O I know its too small for long term... My rays are 6 inch marbles and the mbu is about 5 inch ....and I only need to suffer for about 10 more months until I move as I can't get a bigger tank down the stairs and around the corner I just want to here about some personal experiences with rays and mbu

Terrible idea. Even a tame mbu could randomly get bored one day and snip sections out of your rays. And I'd expect a normal mbu to do it by default.

I'll speak from the experience side of owning a Mbu. From the behavior that I have seen, young mbu's are very curious and love to "test" everything. The issue is that when they are "testing" things around them, they have that sharp beak that shears through whatever they are testing. My fear would be the eyes of the ray would seem mighty interesting, and may be chomped. With this being said, I have not actually tried to have my Mbu with any rays, so I cannot say that with 100% confidence. I have had my Mbu with polys and a few other fish that he did nip at out of curiosity, I ended up having to remove them. He is now riding solo, lol.

I've had mine together for geez..... Maybe a couple years????

There hasn't been a single issue. Mine is around 8" in with Marbles ranging from 7-9". I asked around many times, nobody will ever tell you it's ok. Just like mixing Aimara with rays, same answer, it will just be a matter of time before the Aimara snaps and kills everything in the tank..... lol. Think I'm on year 3 with that combo..... lol. I do however make it a point to aquire the questionable fish as young as possible and raise it with the kind of fish I plan on housing it with long term.

My issue was the lack of proof of anything bad happening, just a bunch of people that don't even have any experience with the fish in question telling me it was a bad idea.

There are no rules in this hobby, and not many people know your fish as well as you do, all you can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best, and be ready with back up plans the whole time.

Good luck with your venture! You should keep us posted on how it goes. :)

Your Mbu is years old and only 8 inches?

Yup. Aquired at the size of a piece of popped popcorn. I bet they weren't 4-5 inches after the first year. The other 2 ended up out in Chicago with MFSwets.

My MBU's housed with Marbles that are mature as early as 7 inches and there's a female in there I bred myself that's 4 years old. She's the 9"er.

Feel free to offer any advice..... I'm all ears :)

I have seen stunted fahaka's showing up more also, not by the owners, just not growing. Well if he is years old, then you are the owner of a mini Mbu for whatever reason. :)

Thank you db junkie for the great info of first hand experience that's all I wanted Cuz like you said a lot of people say o don't do it but they have never tried it I have always thought that it could be possible and you are proof
