IN A PLACE
ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1367902391.148825.jpgPlease see pics. This is big al. He is a 6" mbu puffer. I have had him for almost 4 years now. He never grew : (. He is in a 350g system right now. Anyways, I noticed these growths on his topside today. One is like a raised open sore. He has never had this before and I'm not sure why he just got it. I haven't introduced any new fish in months, and I quarantine all new arrivals for 6 weeks before adding them in. Water parameters are pH 7.6, nitrate 10-20ppm, nitrite and ammonia are 0. Tank is on a 24/7 drip system. None of my other fish have any symptoms. Any idea what this is and how to treat? He just ate some shrimp and a clam and moving around like nothing is wrong...good sign.

I wish I could offer more insight, but I have not seen this before. Possibly some type of skin cancer? Is the cause for his lack of growth known? Stunting etc.

I suspect that he was stunted before I got him. Not quite sure. He never grew in an he moved from a 60g to a 175g to 240g to 350g...no growth ever happened. Hey Kevin- can you edit the title to read MBU not MBA? Stupid ipad!

I'm not able to modify threads in this section, but I put in a request for the title correction. As with most injuries/illness, I would recommend treating with salt to make sure it is not a wound or skin infection to begin with.

Late to this dicussion but my Mbu shows these pimple-like skin growths from time to time. Maybe twice that I can remember. I suspect them to be sub-cutaneous parasites but have not yet seen anything emerging from lesions. The lesions remain for about a week, then disappear. Fish otherwise behaves normally so I have never seen a need to try to treat it.

The metronidazole did nothing to help. In fact, more growths appeared! I moved big al to a larger tank and have been treating with seachem paraguard. Many of the smaller growths have vanished and the large growth is healing. He is on day 6 of treatment.
