my mbu is on its side and has been for 2 days.. it was just moved back here to my house and isnt looking too good. any advise is great advise please help. breathing seems normal and color is fadeing but not too bad. this is the first time he has done this every once in a while he will swim around but will not eat. has a big lump in its belly but it is not a lump from feeding. could he have air stuck in him from the transfer back to my house? sorry about the sloppy info... tank temp is good and water is great is this just sterss and normal? the last thing he ate was raw market shrimp 3 days ago.

We’ll need more info to be able to give you any real help such as:

Whats are the ACTUAL Water Parameters for: NitrAte, NitrIte, and Ammonia Levels

Water Temp:

How long has this new tank hes in been setup?

What size is the tank hes in right now?

How long have you had the puffer and what is his total length now?

What do you normally feed him and whats his feeding schedule?

How was he moved from Point A to Point B exactly?

Also an actual photo of the puffer with his problem lump will also help a lot in diagnosing his problem...

Was he taken out of the water when he was moved? Did he inflate himself? Keep him in a dark tank and don't try to feed for awhile. Remove tankmates if you have any. Good luck.

i lost the parameters on the sheet of paper from my LFS. he said they were perfect. tank has been up and running for about 6 years with no problems. feeding is 2 times a day nightcrawlers in the morning and a peice of market shrimp at night. and twice a week i give him apple snails i breed myself so i know the snails r not sick or bought from a store. i have had him for about 4.5 months got him when he was 2 inches and he is now 7-8 inches not includeing the tail. he is in a 150 all to himself NO tankmates. water temp is 80 as of right now. yes when he was moved back here he was pulled out of the tank and did puff up.i hope the pic is good enough. thank you for the help guys

His stomach doesn't look right if he hasn't eaten in awhile. Did he possible swallow something he shouldn't have?

no there is no gravel in the tank at all. or anything he can eat except what i have fed him. i touched it and it feels like an air bubble. it moves as well and he really cant get in a upright position

also when he was moved back here he was put into a large bag in a stryo box just as i got him when he was shipped to me.. sorry i left that part out.

Okay, although i'm no expert on diseases, the look on your MBU stomach does some what resemble what happened to my congo puffer when he accidently gulped in air, luckily for me i managed to burp my puffer and he was fine after an hour or so...

Either way, wait for Puffer Punk to drop by for a more definitive answer, or try sending her a PM and asking her to check out this thread, coz shes probably the most knowledgeable person around here when it comes to puffers...

BTW, not sure when the last time you checked your water parameters were, but if its been over say even 1-2 weeks, then you really should get a liquid API test kit to check it yourself, coz parameters can and will change no matter how established a tank is...

-EDIT-

Is that a ray i see in the bottom left corner of your last pic? coz that pattern i'm seeing looks an awful lot like some type of ray???

thanks for the help homer.. yes it is a ray.. i put the puffer in that tank tonight cause i know for sure the water is perfect.. i asked a handful of people and they told me to put him in the ray tank for now with the good filters and good water. the puffer is in something like a milk crate away from the rays where it can be stress free. i wanted to keep him in his tank but i got scared when i was told i could lose him if my water wasnt perfect with a stressed out puffer.. i thought i would give it a shot.. at this point what do i have to lose.
