Hi everyone :) just joined!

I'm hoping someone can help me with my Mbu... he's got small white spots appearing near the top fin. I've had Ich before on a few fish, but some of these spots look pretty big for Ich (see below).

He's eating normal and swimming around as much as usual. Incase it's Ich though i've done a 30% water change, and raised the temperature to 31C/86F and put some salt in. This has always been very effective at treating Ich in the past with other fish.

Heres the pics...

All the really small spots are normal for a Mbu, it's the bigger ones... and theres one large spot by the top fin as you can see, it just seems a bit big for Ich to me (this Mbu is atleast 15" btw).

What do you think?
Thanks.

Certainly appears to be the case. He also has some raised bumps (from what I can see) - possible bacterial infection - but your treatment is correct.

Yep looks like ich to me too. Everything you are doing sounds good plus you could add a garlic supplement to his food. Might help stimulate his appetite plus its hard on ich. Besure to up on the oxygen in the tank.

Cheers guys, well i'll see how it goes then for now with the higher temp + salt treatment... maybe try some garlic supplement with the food if i can find any.

Looks like Ich. If you do use ich medication make sure you use half the dose because they dont have scales. Salt treatment should be good enough :)

Absolutely no reason to use meds on ich. Also, if you use a med at 1/2 dose, the parasite will get immune to it.
