Does a Mbu Puffer fish "Puff up" does it affect the water quality or fish when it does? Will it do well in a predator tank? (Puff up defense)

A puffer puffing has no effect on the water but it's very stressful on the fish. Mbu's are best kept in a species only tank. Not only are they aggressive fish, but when they bite down on something it takes chunks out of it.

are they pointlessly agressive (i.e snakehead) that would go after a fish clearly larger? or simply bully agressive to things its size and smaller? i understand it would stress the fish but if thats your only natural defense than it shouldnt be that harmful to the fish right? he will have a fair amount of space to call his own as well.

Really depends on tank size and what you plan on keeping in there with your MBU...

But as with all puffers, each puffer has their own personality, and could turn on tank mates at any time...

okay, that all makes good sense, and the mbu's were i buy them are $300 so not a price tag that im going to gamble.im going to do some research on Fahaka puffer maybe theyll fair better.

I already have a GATF and a Silver Arowana the Aro is a full inch bigger (3.5") so far and they have never nipped at each other yet or shown any aggression to each other.

Those two are and will be the main attraction of my aquarium, i gave a 8" pleco to my friend who has recently shown interest in fishkeeping so in the next week or so ill be getting a new pleco and cant decide wether i want the zebra pleco or the grenn pleco w/ green spots. green pleco is about double the cost of the zebra.

I wouldn't treat a Fahaka any different than an Mbu other than tank size.

Fahakas are known to be some of the most vicious of all freshwater puffers... so i would definitely stay away from mixing them with tank mates unless you didn't mind losing some...
