IN A PLACE
I posted in the puffer section but didn't get any definitive answers. My 6" mbu puffer has been with me for 3 or 4 years. He never grew. His health has been fine until now. He has large raised sores growing on his back, also a white dot on his tail. He is in a 350g system. Water is good 10-20 nitrate, 0 nitrite and ammonia. PH is 7.6. Temp is 81. He is eating shrimp. I began adding tetracycline to his food yesterday and added salt. Today he ate and then I added some Pima fix (out of mela fix, will get some tomorrow ). I can't figure out what this is. If anyone can help me diagnose, I would be grateful. He is one of my favorite fish and a good friend.

What?? My mbu is in a 155 and has grown a couple inches in a few months feeding shrimp n crays. If he had not grown in 4 years there's something wrong.... I would use metro powder personal choice. Possible bacterial infection. And him not growing possible internal parasite which metro treats also.

If the fish hasn't grown much and survived in 3-4 years could indacate a viral condition. If this is the case there is no cure. If you are going to treat as suggested above it will be much cheaper to do so in a small hospital tank. Treating 350 gallons will be very expensive.

Hmmm, viral could make sense. I treated this guy several times for IP and he still never grew. I really need to logistically figure out a hospital tank situation. However, treating 350g isnt that big of a deal, I wouldn't want any of my other fish getting sick too....

I got some seachem metro powder. Dosed his food and he ate last night. Also added metro, mela and pima fix to the water. he was pooping when i checked on him this morning. The growths have not gotten worse, hopefully, there is improvement when i get home this evening.
