Okay, so I've wanted a Mbu puffer since I can remember, just never had the right tank for him. I know p bass won't eat what he eats, so food competition isn't really a problem. I also know that Mbu are one of the friendliest puffers and usually do well in community tanks. Has anyone ever tried this combo? I'm getting ready to build a way bigger tank and am considering grabbing a Mbu to throw in with my p bass and bichirs.

Oh man, I have to say that mixing them is NOT a good idea. Puffers are beasts and have no mercy on fins and such. I really would hate to see you try this.

if you value your cichla i wouldnt.. why not get another tank for the puffer :naughty: :D

If you're going to try it, test the Mbu out with other fish and if it's tank-mate friendly, than you could try. I wouldn't add it not knowing. It would be a cool combination.

I had my mbu with my pbass for for about 5 months and never had one problem. Just recently traded it in though. He was a bit smaller, I would deffenetly reccomend that. My 220 cracked and had to do it more out of necessity (the mbu was my girls favorite), they got along so I left him in there. But in the end, I wouldn't risk it.

i never owned a mbu puffer but i heard they're temperament is off the yin yang

Yeah ive heard they are super aggressive when they reach maturity. So aggresive that most people that keep them, keep them in 125g and up all alone. They do get pretty big.

To be honest one of those that can work for one person but not another.

It usally depends on the individual puffers temprment.

I wouldnt risk it, I know the damage that they can inflict.

best advice here....
seen em do alot of damage.
also seen em live with tetras....
