i have seen a few threads recently and youtube videos where MBU puffers are kept with rays - i would love a mbu with my rays what do you guys think?

any experience with this combination would be much appreciated thanks!

I've been keeping one with my new born and now pre adult pups for around a year with no problems but this is a very small time frame to get a basis if I have it figured out or just lucky. Most people say no.

I have mine with some big rays, pikes, tigrinus and rtc x tsn. No problems and it's been about 7 months.

It would just make me nervous because a mbu can do a large amount of damage in a short time

Too risky for me but i am glad it is working out for you guys

I had mine with my motoro and was fine for months, one day he snapped and got ahold of his tail and chopped it up past his barb.Tail fell off and is now growing back. 23" MBU is now in his own tank. Taking no more chances.

I had 6" tig and 4" mbu together for about 2 weeks and one day.... the tig's tail was gone and died 4 days later.... sold the mbu 4 weeks ago and still looking for another tig.

Right now my rays only have about 1/8" of sand on the bottom and I only hand feed my mbu. My mbu also has a spot with fake plants and driftwood where it goes and the rays don't. Don't know if this is working or I'm just lucky.

hmmm mixed opinions - does anyone think it would be better if the rays were of an adult size and the mbu was a juvie?

personal view is that it isnt worth it. I admit this is my dream combo and i've seen them kept in a local shore together but as has been mentioned here although generally placid thy can cause huge damage in a very short space of time. The last Mbu i had ate two Yellow labs by accident at feeding time (they got in the way as he lunged for prawns). They were in half and he just wasnt interested but the damage was done.
If a mbu caught the head of a ray or indeed any of the body the chances of survival would be close to nil...
I have help rays with brazilain puffers but that didnt end well for the puffers
