Mbu tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the 1st Q has to be: In how large a tank & then: For how long?

I've had mine in tanks with other fish.

He was in a basically african cichlid tank for 2 years. Mine is getting old and not as quick to food as he used to be so I am tearing down the tank, moving the africans to the 52,000 and 15,000 and setting it up with the mbu and a shoal of discus this time around.

He has also been in a 180 with a shoal of mono sebae in the past and never bothered them.

You can see him in the 810 gallon tank video in my signature.

That must be spectacular! Any pics? How big is your mbu?

I think it also depends on the puffer...

I have two mbu's in a 160g tank, hopefully moving into something much larger within the next 3 months when we move. The cardinal tetras have been fine, as is the mickey mouse platy's. Smaller cory's tend to be eaten every now and then (especially panda corys). I have an army (8?) of bristlenose plecos in there right now that have survived, as well as a few bala sharks.

One had I before (and ended up selling) used to snack on baby platy's, as well as a 1.5" pleco who got its head bitten off not long after he was dropped into the tank. This one killed a few panda and julii cory's as well.

I am by no means an expert... on TPF and and here you can ask this member how it worked out in the long run:
