i have a 72 gallon tank and i would like to have a large mbuna cichlid tank. its a rock tank with hiding places. how many could i have in a 72 tank.all the fish are around 4 - 6 inchs
i kept about 15 in my 75 along with 2 clown loaches, a silver dollar tetra and a huge apple snail. i had 700 gph between a biowheel and a canister filter. i did 25% water changes weekly or everyother week and i fed 3 days a week
id do about 15 mbuna, a bottom feeder or two total
dont fill it up all at once because you'll always find that one fish down the road that you just have to have
stock it lightly (10 africans) if you get some in pairs (especially y-labs) because you'll end up with fry and most of the time some will survive the other fish. 4 of my 15 were y-lab X auratus fry
iam upgrading from my 55 gallon. i have 2 elctick yellows (have bread) 2 red zebras(have bread) two blue mangoins(i forget how its spellit) 2 blue acies yellow tail one mixed mbuna and a pleco, i would like to add 2 blue colbat zebras. also i have a tank of red zebras from breeding.
"over stocking" African cichlids can be beneficial. It seems, to me, better. Except for the increase in filter maintenance and water changes. But that is a small price to pay for a cool tank. Depending on the type of cichlids, you could go much higher than 10-15 in a 75g. I see 20 in 55g frequently!
iam short on cash but iam thinking on a 110 gallon, 6 ft tank. then how many fish could i have. i kinda want a tank like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyPY22KPEJo
