I have one of my cobalts that looks like it is getting very skinny and the mouth and gills looks like it has a big mouth full of sumthing and it is fanning it's gills a lot and I was wondering is she was actualy holding fry or if it was sick for some reason

Check it for fry. Hold it, in wet hands, with the head pointed down (preferably over a fry net or rearing tank). Gently open the jaws with a blunted-tip toothpick. Any fry should slide right out.

Looks like it is holding. Bucaal area looks full.

thanx I realy apreciate it I want to hold them as long as she chooses but I just wanted to make shure that she wasn't realy sick or sumthing as she is not eating anything :( kinda makes me worrie about her and cant realy net her without taking the tank down to almost nuthing as she hides too good

well I checked her for fry in the way that was sugested to me even though it made me wary about it and got her to give me about 12 fry that i put into my other tank with the fry and put her back in the main tank I am hoping that she will start eating again now getting a little on the thin side for me
hopefully they are not hybred but wont be able to tell till they get larger

Alternatively, less stress to the fry you can get a fry tank (or big bowl) and put tank water in it and strip her while she's in the water so the fry swim out instead of just slide out.

that is kinda what I did held her head in the water and opened her mouth and let them swim out into my little holding tank I did it over then I checked her to make shure they were all out and repeated this till I was shure I had them all then I put her back in the main tank and the fry went in with my 50+ jewel fry in my little fry tank

not realy just a pain to catch her to get her out without destroying my tank decore but forceing her to open up and say ahhhhhh wasn't hard just got to be gental but forceful at the same time dont want to injure the fish in the process
