So I finally got a fish tank but Its a 20 gallon. I was wondering if I could have a couple of yellow labs in there with tons of rockwork. This will either be a permanent tank or a grow out tank. How long do you think it would take for them to outgrow it? Would this work?
Another question is should I use black sand or white gravel? Will sand be harder to clean? The background would be black, with white rocks and slate.

definately black sand...i have it and it looks sharp...it is hard to clean, but it's worth it i think....and they will get way too big for that tank...if you feed them about 3 times a day...i'll give them about 6-8 months...and they will be cramped...probably even less time.....otherwise, sounds good....and the next tank you buy, just get a freaking huge one like 90 gallons plus...it will save you money from buying the next tank up each time they get bigger, and you want more fish.

Is it hard to siphon with black sand?

my black sand stays farily clean. as for the siphoning its easy just swirl above it don't touch it

Two yellow labs in a 20 gal will be fine forever. they max out at about 4in. Def. go with sand... but doesnt have to be black sand. When you fall in love with the africans, you will want a bigger tank to house all the fish you want to buy.... lol

I heard from someone that if you keep yellow labs in a smaller number that they will act more "tame" around you. Is this true? If I get two should it be two males?
Oh another question is will a tv stand thats 34 inches hold this tank?

1 water gallon is 1o lbs ... 2o gallons is 2oo lbs plus the weight of the tank ...
25o lbs max ...
i try to take stands with minim. 1 inch larger each side of the tank ...
do you think your stand can support 25o lbs ???
it is largest of your tank ???

I would get more than 2. If you only get 2 they will pester each other. 2 males will fight. I would get at least 1 male and 3 females to spread out the aggression.
