i got my lionfish to start accepting foods other than goldfish. it'll eat shrimp and mealworms but it seems to prefer mealworms. they are softy super worms so i dont think the shell would be any problem but i dunno..

Well that depends on how big your lion is. Sometimes the shell can turn them away from the worms since it can be a hassel to the little ones and doesnt have much of a flavor. You can pop the heads off and squueze them a little to entice the lion to check them out, since the guts inside are apparently delicious to them, IMO..eww. Once he starts taking them like that, you can see if he will accept a whole one. As long as he is good size, the super worms are ok, but if not, I would say drop down to the regular meal worms. You can also give them a vit-soak too for added nutrients.
Just buy frozen packets of bait fish and prawns/shrimp for it. If they are to big they can just be broken or cut up into chunks.
i don't see any harm in feeding them once in a while ..but seeing it's not part of their diet in the wild i don't see any good in it as well ...i my self would not
Well as a staple in their diet - no, but as an occasional switch up, they won't cause any harm or nutritional deficientcies. I agree the majority of the diet needs to be varied, and resemble natural dietary selections, but that wasn't the question.
You should try silversides and krill. I have had my lionfish since he was about 3 inches and it took me about two weeks to get him off of live stuff and taking the frozen stuff. Usually once there established they are not real picky eaters.
