Mealworms?

Id imagine they'd be fine to feed, as long as there pesticide free. They might be a bit crunchy though seeing as they adult form of a meal worm so maybe crack its shell with something before feeding it.

But im not expert and i have no expierence with feeding these so take my word for it, Good Luck!

I feed my meal worms occassionaly. But after reading the Sticky section about bichir diet I feed it rarely. Here is why....the red meal worms can cause indigestion problems due to the hard shell. I heard white meal worms are more preferrable.

I thought the chitin in the shell would be a problem for there little tummy's, so try and feed the mealworms after they've molted and are softer and maybe try it with the beetles if they molt, ive never had expierecne with the adult form though so im not sure if they even molt :nilly:

What i use to do when i fed my snakeheads meal worms, everyday i would pick out the ones that have freshly molted, gut load them then freeze them. I would also pick out the worms that were just about to turn into bugs and freeze them as well. My snakehead use to love those ones.

I feed mine meal worms all the time, once or twice a week. But I don't feed them as a staple, more as a treat when I feel like watching them go crazy over something. I don't pick out any freshly molted ones though and use the brown/yellow ones as is. I haven't noticed any difference in their poop after feeding them mealworms so I'm assuming it's not causing any blockage or anything of the sort.

I also feed them the adult stage, beetle form. They actually prefer them since they produce a stronger odor. I actually have to cut a tiny piece of the meal worms tail for it's juices to spill out to really get their attention. So I say go ahead and feed them your meal worms. (Actually every fish I have love them: angels, clown loaches, poly, dwarf puffer, ctenopoma... I haven't observed any adverse effects)

However, I do recognise that beblondie's sticky does indicate that only freshly molted mealworms should be fed. It's really up to you in the end. I don't find it's a problem in any of my fish but that's just me.

I wouldn't do the same with superworms though... Those things are hard.

Same here. I've already been feeding my 2yr senegal mealworms for most of his life now. Prior to reading that same sticky it never occurred to me that the ones that hadn't molted yet might be hard to digest for him. But same has you I never notice any adverse effects from feeding him the ones that had not molted. Was just curious about the beattle form of them which I never attempted to feed him. Simply because I don't like to risk trying anything new diet wise. When he seems to do so well with his current variety of foods... You know, If its not broke, don't try to fix it. Apporach

mealworms are one of the most nutricious food for fishes :) high in protein and fibre
