So I realize that some of you don't have huge tanks to house some of the tankbusters that some of us house... here is a good idea for the noob looking for a mean guy for their lil tank... try a school of spotted puffers. At the LFS I work at when people want to put puffers in their comm. tank and don't believe me that they are aggressive I just throw a goldfish in there and they just eat it up right away... plus they are kinda cool looking...

I keep mine in fresh but I do work at the pet store... but yes if I sell them I tell to slowly move to brackish and when close to full size to full salt but no changes in filtration is required it is pretty easy to throw some salt in a small tank....

you mean the group of puffers actually ripped the gold fish apart to mouth size bites before eating it?

like wad piranas do?
Little puffers are mean as hell! They will keep biting the goldfish, biting off fins, eyes, gills, etc.. just tearing it apart. Puffers are evil!

orwh!!! that sucks and hurt and hell for the poor goldie.

i rather the predator finish the prey in one big gulp, (like my aro does) so that it wont be feel so cruel feeding feeders to them.

the last time i fed feeder goldfish to my aro + st, i heart was aching so much for those poor babies (the goldfishes) that i totally refrine from buying anymore feeder goldfish anymore.

becoz last time i keep goldfish before and i cant see them as feeders compared to ghost shrimps and frogs..

True freshwater dwarf puffers will be fine in a smaller tank, but figure eight puffers need about 20 gallons each and green spotted puffers need about 30 gallons each, plus both species are brackish and are going to be prone to ich, fin rot, etc. in freshwater. Plus, they aren't schooling fish. If you try to keep more than one in anything less than about 55 gallons, you are going to be in for some serious aggression problems. Here's my old puffer page: http://www.geocities.com/stella16091609/How_To_Care_For_Puffers.htm . There's also a really good dwarf puffer site now; I don't know the URL off the top of my head, but a Google search would probably turn it up.
