Phew. That's a lot of work and a lot of splashing. Here are the final results, ranking from smallest to largest.

#2 - Lucy - Lapradei - 11.25''
#1 - Medusa - Endli Congicus - 12''

Kind of shocked on a lot of the measurements. I thought Medusa was much longer, I thought Izzy was much smaller. I was hoping my baby Indy was at least #2 not #6. Also some other differences to note... Polly (8.5'') and Molly (6.5'') the Pollis were the same length when I got them 2 months ago. Gumby (6.25'') and Pokey (6.5'') were the same length when I got them too. Perhaps the rubberband issue HAS affected it's growth. The Dels were also the same at one time, and now the half blind one is .25'' smaller.

I photographed all the endlis when I took their measurements, and I'm going to try to do this at least every two months. Which is about how long it'll take me to get my carpet dry after all that splashing ;) Will post updates when I measure them - this will be interesting!

Thats a pretty sweet collection! Just imagine when they are all full grown! I'll be looking forward to the pics!

Very nice collection :)

thats quite a list! can't believe you actually took them out one by one and measured them. lots of stress and work :D

why would someone need 25 bichirs? talk about hoarding. I'd be happy with just one senegal.
but i'm a very humble person who is usuallly satisfied with what he has.
no offense.

once you buy a bichir you won't be content until you have them all lol.

Not sure I'd call it "hoarding". I like them. They make me happy. I like to watch them grow. I also like to collect things so I'm working on all of the species. I DO apologize if you've got a problem with that.

And yeah I know I'm going to have my hands full when these babies grow up... especially when my boyfriend limits me to 55 gallon tanks until we move into a house or an apartment on the ground floor. I might end up with 55s lining the perimeter of the apartment to accomodate them LOL! Hopefully we'll be able to get something larger before that happens.

Anybody have any advice on measuring them outside the tank with minimal stress if there is such a way?? I just netted them, layed them on a towel by the yardstick and tried to get them to hold still. The jumpy ones I used a washcloth to hold. Only got pricked twice. OH OH OH I heard their noise! Little chirping sounds from the baby polli and the little mokie. Too cool!

well one way is you can drop a ruler in the tank and take pictures of your bichir next to it. or you can stick a ruler by the glass when the bichir is near it. you can also use the dimension of your tank to guestimate the size of your bichir. i don't really measure my bichirs often. i only measure them when i first get them or if i happen to move them to a different tank.

like I said, no offense, i've just never met anyone with 25 types of one fish genus LOL.
