I'm looking for the most hardcore mechanical filter out there. My guess is it's at least largely DIY. I'm planning mine out. I'm thinking powerheads at one end aimed at the gravel to blow the stuff up into the water and a pretty strong suction pipe at the other end to take it in. Then various screens in the sump/pump body and maybe some sort of collection tray system under the screens to hold the stuff for easy removal. I know somebody out there has an awesome system for handling some seriously messy critters. Let me see!

Ocean clear and Nu-clear canisters are awesome mechanical filters, but if you are having a sump why not use filter socks?
Wow Dan that looks pretty hardcore. Looking at what you have listed in your signature I can see why you've got it. You've got as messy as they get. My turtle is by far my worst in terms of waste. That snapper you've got has got to be pretty bad.
