Planning my filtration out and having some questions.
The design: water drains from overflows through some type of mechanical filtration into sump, while in sump gets pumped to some bioball towers that drain back into sump, and drain from sump gets returned to tank. Simple design.
Question is what type of mechanical filtration should I use? I have a room next to tank where all filtration and sump will be, so space is not an issue. In the past power heads stirred up the "dirt" and overflows skimmed it from the top to filter socks in sump. Usually used 100 micron felt socks and they would clog very fast (less than a week). Should I change to 200 micron mesh?
The other option I was considering was to supplement with some nuclear canister filters. Not use the power heads to stir up dirt, let the overflows skim from the top, and add some tubes to drain from lower levels of tank. These tubes would go to the canisters and back to tank...
Open to suggestions and ideas.

Stock will be large African Haps, and I'd like to have a sand substrate.
Thanks'
Jeff
