Just finished up my DIY Sump.. made out of a sterilite 3 drawer system. What would be the best mechanical filtration that I could setup? Looking for stuff that I can find at wally world. I know of pillow batting.. but there must be more? Now if I'm filtering out fine particles will this effect the bio media?

I would look for quilt batting. It comes in sheets and catches more fine particles than the poly-fill does. Mechanical filtration will not effect the bio media because the ammonia will still get through.

:iagree:

Good mech filtration before the biomedia is good, because it keeps it from getting clogged. Not so important in a sump though, as a canister, where the media is more porous. Poly-fill or quilt batting is probably the best for fine particles.

Im no expert, infast I would go ask WOLF3101 or Dr Joe on this forum as they know way more than I do.
However there are a few things I have learned this year, and one of the things is that pillow batting is a mess and I will NEVER use that stuff again!!!!!!

The thing I was told to get, got, and now use and love is floor buffing pads.

The floor buffing pads are strong, reusable, washable, and work like a charm....
