I read that either the nitrate or nirtrite(the toxic one..) builds up on mechanical media over time but..
can you wash or kill it off in sink water?

What do you mean by worry about it?

so is it gonna wash off or not??lol

Gunge is what builds up in the mechanical filtration media. It's a bit smelly, being a lovely mix of fish poo and algae, but not especially toxic. Just rinse out the filters in old tank water as needed when you do your filter maintainance.

Toxins CAN build up in mechanical filter media IF you leave it in the water long enough. However if your servacing your filters on a regular schedule this shouldn't be a problem.

Your talking about Weeks before it can happen however so it's not much of an issue unless your a total slob.....lol

I will be rinsing the media often!
So should I buy the 12pack or only thr 4pack of whisper bio-bags?

You can rinse out the media and and re-use them many times. Only replace them when they get really grotty.

Rinse and clean filter and media with de-chlorinated water, preferably the same water as from your tank. Treat it as though it is alive because it is.
