I was wondering if it was good for a Fahaka to have Medicated Salt in the Tank...I added some and i suppose it's ok because i heard some Fahakas are brackish water. Please Help i need to know soon thanks![]()
Fahakas are totally fresh, don't add salt.
Rob, you asked a question, if you already knew, then why ask?
no i do know quite a bit about the topic ...i had asked the question in hope of someone more knowledgable about the topic to enlighten me with reasons why salt may be bad for fahakas, i couldn't think of any reasons....most freshwater fish actually benefit from a small dosage of salt ....do you have any justification for your statement?
Tonic salt isn't the same as marine salt so we aren't talking about 'true' brackish water here. I would only recommend adding salt to aid the healing of injuries.
As far as I know the family of puffers originated in salt water. As a result, most FW puffers will tolerate brackish water, but I would not do this long term. Water changes will keep your puffer in the best condition, tonic salt or not.
Hope that helps!![]()
