hi I was wondering is this setup oky for my fx6

top - bio foam -> fine polishing pads -> fine water polishing pads
middle - seachem matrix -> ( don't know if I should add a fine polishing pads or water polishing pads or add no pads)
bottom - ceramic rings -> ( don't know if I should add a fine polishing pads or water polishing pads or add no pads)

is this setup oky for a 3-4 month cleaning? I am up to any idea anything best for my tank. I just took my fx6 out to clean and want to know If this a good setup or not before I put everything back in.

alright do u know if I got 1 fish how long can I wait to clean the canister? 2month?

i have mine setup as follows.
top tray-bio foam and biomax.
middle tray-all biomax
bottom tray- biomax and a polishing pad on bottom.

the bottom tray is the last step so your kind of wasting the polishing pads in every tray. i clean mine every 2-3weeks.

If you don't want to do the work, don't keep the fish.

Look at it as if you were the one living in the tank. You crap and piss in your single room, how long do you wait until you clean it up?

Yes, the filter relocates some of it, but the water is still flowing through it inside the filter.

I didn't say I don't want to clean it I just want to know how long till I need to clean it and hows my setup

My Eheims 2217 get cleaned only when flow is reduced.... like every 6 months or sometimes as l9mg as a year. Been keeping great water chemistry with big cichlids for over 10 years.

There is no fixed amount of time that will apply to every tank, there are just to many variables to waste time picking a number. On my FX4 and FX6, I use the stock coarse pads around the perimeter but have two different egg crate mats that will fit together and provide a coarse and medium filter in the same space and I will be replacing them next filter change. Top tray has a fine pad on top and the rest is filled with bio home ultimate. I don't use the red inner baskets at all, no point to it. The rest of the baskets are all filled with bio home ultimate and on the very bottom I have 2 layers of very fine polishing pads on the very bottom, 2 large fine media bags filled with purigen surrounded by more ultimate around the Purigen bags. I rinse the coarse pads with tank water each month and replace the polishing pads as needed. Works for me.
