Hey all,

I had to quickly seed a 5g tank so I could put a holding Demasoni into it. Because I only had the smallest Whisper HOB (90gph), I decided to take out some sponge from my established 55g and added some biomax into the filter chamber, instead of using the carbon cartridge.

I've never put media in the Whiisper like this, always had used the carbon cartridge. The flow is a tad stunted, no spill-over on the intake side though. I was wondering if anyone has had any probs or would chime in on if this is ok? I basically cut the sponge to the chambers so it's snug and put the biomax rings on top of it. I also left a little space under the sponge.

I figured that this would be the best way to get the tank seeded & safe for the Dem. I'm just concerned that because the Whisper isn't made like an AC, this will be a prob like maybe eventual spillage or something.

any advice would be great.
Thanks,

i ran an Elite Hush hob rated for a 50 like that, with sponges on the bottom then biomax, then a strip of filter floss, custom cut, laid on top but tucked into the front, just before the water flows out. it did diminish the flow some, but not enough for me to be worried. basically, i put the media the way i would have in an Aquaclear.

i mention this because the Whisper double sided hob rated for a 55 looks to be of a similar setup, just bigger and more rectangular than the Elite, but the way the water comes in and goes out is the same. (i have both of these filters, but use them for floss only, as a water clarifier, in addition to a main filter on each tank loaded with biomax and sponges)

i have piles of extra media in my sump to stick in HOB filters whenever i need them... scrubbies/sponges/filterfloss/bioballs/biomax/chunks of coral... it all works..
