Media: New Media Pads Vs. Regular Media????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was brousing in the stores and saw some pads that are "Carbon Pads" and a couple of other pads that take out unwanted harmful stuff. Now these pads, How well do they work compared to the gritty regular activated carbon. Question to be asked for all other regular media and how all the pads compare to the regular media.

Let me hear some input from those that have used the "New" pads, and what are your oppinions on how they work???? We'll probably always use the gritty media, but are the pads worth a chance???

Thanks...

I've been told they aren't worth the expense.. but other than that, I don't know much about them. They would be great for a water change system if your tap water has chloramine or other contaminants in it..

Nope, me either. Too expensive to keep replacing once the carbon is "full". I just go with the filter pad, bio media, and weekly water changes.

So is it safe to say that if your tank is opperation correctly (weekly Water Changes, Filter Pad and Bio Media) that you don't have to bother with those other chemical media like carbon, nitrite, nitrate, phos, ammonia, and varrious others, unless your tests indicate to do so?????

Thanks.

i would go for Chemi-Pure it is really good. my tank was having trouble and i just put one in my cansiter filter and it worked like magic. with regards to nitrite and amonia i would safeguard myself in using nitra-zorb if your canister is fluval or just dump it in your wet/dry sump. it really helped in controlling a zero tolerance in my tank. all chemical and mechanical fitration is good it depends on what you want and your budget. regualar water change is a must not an option.

one more thing... it all depends... it worked for me and all our tanks have different requirements and different needs. i have some tank with no carbon and some with tons of chemical and mechanical filtration. :)
