Just got the eheim 2217 just today and it took forever to assemble this badboy...... Instructions was horrible. But good thing the pics weren't crap and I was able to figure it out. This filter is awesome but looking at the cost of some of the media replacement is burning my eyes. The only thing I'm most likey going to replace is the fine filter pad(the white pad) and that's gonna cost 12 bucks to swap out. So my question is does anyone here know the lifespan of these pads? I'm guessing like most fine filter pads it's short? Which means I'll be spending more money then I want to. So any one that uses this filter use something else other than the fine filter pad have good results?

I use polyfill in my eheims, Its the same as filter floss but cheaper. Buy a kilo from a craft store for $5 and it lasts me a year.

Alright that sounds good and is a better idea then paying 12bucks a refill. If anyone has anything to add or such your 2cent is welcome
