Hey all, getting the 4x2x18 sump in a few weeks.

Just wondering what kinda setup is best media-wise...

Guy at the shop recommended bbq rock but just wanna know what peoples opinions are on here as everyone pretty much has fw and keeps monsters.

So, what media do I get? and do I layer it with filter foam and use carbon or no carbon etc etc.

Pick your brain and flick it on this thread :headbang2

lava rock is good or you can use pot scrubbies. there is a sticky on the top of the forum that talks about different media's that you can read into and make a decision. i like pot scrubbies. they work great for BB and won't scratch or crack your tank if you drop a peice and there super cheap at those dollar stores.

i have a 5x18x18 sump that handles 1 aro, 12 kkp, 2 tigrinus, 1 flagtail and 1 dat.......this is the combo i found works well for me...

it has 4 compartments
1. filterwool and the rest is japanese mats from top to bottom
2. ceramic rings and pond matrix
3. pond matrix
4. drip pad with bioballs

in the sump i have a bag of corals to stabilise pH and use purigen when i need to clear the water

this has worked well for me

Yeah I went out and bought 1000 bio balls.

Will fill my media compartment, will probably get 20L of pond matrix or matrix aswell.

I decided to upgrade my 2ft sump filled with sponges and bio balls to 4 Litres of substrat pro separating 2 litres of substrat on top of the substrat is another sponge then 2 litres of Ehfimech. On top of the Ehfimech is another sponge, cotton wool, and then a small amount of bio balls.

Pot scrubbers are the best!
