I cannot find grain alcohol as recommended to mix metro with. Can I use water and then let the food dry?

I mixed about a tsp with my three percent Epsom salt solution and used an eye dropper to wet pellets. I fed fed them to my cichlids. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I also mixed about a tsp or so in a plastic half gallon container with tank water to give my flowerhorn a bath in it. I'm letting him float in the container in my tank to keep the same temp. He doesn't seemed stressed. I'll let him out in a few hours. the store only had one bottle and I need two for my tank. Being he seems the only fish that's not eating I figured I'd give this a try.
I just took him it of the floating container I gave him a bath in and he had some orange poop in it! For the first time in over a week! He then pooped orange again and is socializing and chasing some of the other cichlids instead of sitting in the corner of the tank like he's been doing for over a week.
