Medication and Bio filtration.

I'm currently planning to treat my arowana for fin and some scale issues.
My worry is the medicine i'm planning to use might kill off the BB in the bio filter.

what do you guys do when you need to treat your fish with medication that might harm or kill off the bio filter?
do you just treat and , after treatment recycle the tank?

Normally, a lot of people just add carbon to the their tanks after they finish with medicating to remove any possible remaining meds in the tank...

thanks, Was planning to use Ocean free Super external bacteria and fungus away.
still not decided if to medicate as I'd like to avoid medicines if possible. and i don't like recycling my tanks.
