Just picked up a really cool "double trunk" elephantnose. My best guess is Campylomormyrus numenius. He's been at the store for about a month and is feeding well on frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp but still looks pretty skinny. I'm considering giving him a course of Prazi to deal with potential parasites. Anyone know anything about the sensitivity of mormyrids to praziquantel?

try bulking him up on live black worms, imo unless there are other indicators it has ips. its likely just underfed. lfs are notorious for this. have you seen it actually eat? imo bloodworms and mysis arent enough to sustain morms or spiney eels.

Thanks - I've had the same thought and have been going with that approach. If I don't notice any weight increase within a couple of weeks I might try a course of Prazi.

Thankfully this guys eats like a champ. In addition to the bloodworms and mysis I've started feeding him finely chopped supermarket shrimp, which I've had good luck with in the past. I'll probably go pick up some live blackworms later this week. I've been feeding him 3-4 times a day and I'm shocked at how much this guy can eat.

They will eat almost constantly if you have the food available. Id say if in a week you don't notice a difference start thinking about Prazing him. I do this w/ baby spineys and recently wc rays... shallow sand bed 1/4 ir so. ide go deeper for a mory since they have that sensitive "nose" and add like 5 portions of black worms or about a fist sized ball... It seems like alot I know. they will situate in the bed and allow free feeding for a week min for most fish. way easier then trying to feed them constantly. just get a feel for how it effects your bio-load, I usually do my big weekly water change before adding them ( after I've given them a good rinse first). I also found they live longer and are fatter if just added in clumps to the tank then trying to portion them out... I haven't had a problem yet doing this. pretty sure they eat the detritus and Ive actually got them in one of my HOBs replenishing abit. just watch out for the tiny leeches thats ometimes come in with them. and Prazi will not kill them.
