I turned on my lights today only to notice one of my Male Venustus got beat pretty bad. His fins are nipped and he has some scales missing. From what I see, there is no disease that causes this right? Im thinking he took a beating from another fish. Well anyway, what should I do to heal him. I put him in his own 20 gallon QT tank. Any meds or tips would help. Thanks.

Put in some melafix, and pimafix. And just do a large amount of water changes.
Alright. About how long should it take to heal? I am trying to get some pics of him.

Well surprisingly fast. I mean I tend not to even take mine out of my big tanks unless they are really beat up and within a week they are usually fully healed.

Should I be feeding him like high protein foods or something? Thanks for the help Ikevi.

I would just feed him normal. Don't stress him out anymore than he is already, so changing his diet would be a bad idea. (IE we don't want bloat to come around...)

Is there a possibility that this could also be fin rot? Its mostly his body and slime coat beat up. Is this the first signs of any diseases? Thanks for everything.

Well if he doesn't get better than you can treat. But I would say don't think the worse.

Just treat with the preventatives (melafix/pimafix) and makes sure he has good water for now, and if he doesn't look like he is getting better or if you notice him getting worse than go to the harder stuff. (IE maracyn 1 and 2.)

Alright. Will do. Thanks for everything. I will update if he gets worse or better.
