Meet our Black Arowana, named 'Alepo'i (ah leh POE ee) its Hawaiian for Surf, or Wave Breaker. Last time i was in Honolulu i saw a pond filled with koi and thats what the man feeding the monster sized goldfish called them. Figured it was a fitting name for this guy. enoy

Looks a little beat up, did you buy it that way or are current tankmates making life hard?

nope he just came in from Rapps on Tuesday, his only tank mate is a wild caught columbian chocolate cichlid thats about 4in and stay next to her drift wood all day.

and go ahead ceej it is a great name to be honest.

He should heal up pretty quickly with pristine water conditions. Make sure you keep up the water params, young aros such as yours get fin rot very easily.

I would still keep an eye on that chocolate, separate with even the slightest sign of aggression.

Will do Bderick. I do water changes of 20% every other day and have medication for fin rot and other fungus and parasites. I'm just unsure about using the meds with the arowana, there not like catfish with the sensitive skin?

Nice, hope his fins heal for you.

nice aro

i tend to go the med route as a last ditch effort. most of the time, just good clean water and some salt does the trick. the one time i tried meds one my black due to a mostly eatten tail from a fight i ended up with an aro with some werid stomach swelling that it eventualy died from. i tried everything i could think of to trey and cure it, but nothing worked. simmilar deal with a silvers tail practicaly gone, just salt and wc. now that aro is over 20". can't place the blacks death on the meds alone, but they were the only difference in the two cases. also the meds were expiered so that could be a difference maker, but i will not try it again to find out. also as brian said, what that chocolate and enjoy your new pickup.
