This is Maxx,...my tiger salamander.
I picked him up 3 or 4 months ago as a mud-puppy,...a juvenile, fully aquatic form that salamanders begin life as. At this point they are all grey, have external gills, short stubby legs and a fat tail.
About 6 weeks ago...his gills and tail began to shrink, his legs grew longer and his skin color became a mottled grey/brown camoflage. He lives in this half-tank set-up with a bunch of guppies, cherry shrimp, and snails.
