Been a long time lurker but never really posted... Figured I'd finally make a post and introduce everyone to Sake, my four year old arowana...
Got him from an uncle bills pet store back in April 2012... Got him when he was around 3-4 inches... Honestly I couldn't even give you guys an estimate now of how long he is... When I got him, I had to divide my tank in half so my cichlids wouldn't hurt him... Over the time frame of a year or two, the cichlids slowly started to disappear.... After about 2 years, the only fish left was Sake and a clown knife I named Spots... Long story short my basement ended up flooding in a bad storm... I had to move the tank in order to clean the mess in the basement up (ended up vacuuming 1000 gallons of water out the basement).... In the meantime, my uncle gave me another tank that I really liked, so dad and I ended up building a new stand for the tank and setting it up... After getting everything set up, I decided to move Sake and Spots over... I knew it wasn't going to be an easy task, but I had to do it... I emptied about 3/4 of the tank and began the fight.... I divided the tank in half again and tried to get Sake in a net cause that's all I had... He fought with me no joke for like 15 mins before getting him in the net and being able to move him over.... Got slapped in the face a couple times in the process... Dropped him in and moved Spots over... Spots wasn't so lucky and ended up dying after about 10 mins in the new tank..... Sake seemed to be doing fine, but he didn't eat for about 3 weeks... Worried me a bit, but I know how long these fish can go without food...
Blah blah blah, Sake seemed sad that Spots was gone... They always swam together and seemed to get along... I ended up getting another Clown Knife that I named Curves (yes I name all my pets) ... At first Sake tried killing him, but after about a week everything seemed good... Now they swim, eat ,etc... do everything together....
They only thing I hate about Sake - he jumps, he splashes, and he jumps... He only jumps when chasing fish or mice so it's not that big of a deal... Although he does wake me up sometimes (I sleep in the basement) in the middle of the night from jumping....Wouldn't trade him for anything though...
Now some pics, sorry for my talking. but figured I'd give some background. Btw he's 4 years old but has no drop eye... First one I've ever had without drop eye...
