For those folks that saw version 1.0 kinda have an idea of this tube I am using. It is 8.5" in diameter and about 50" tall. Originally used to drop test stuff into and no I can't get any more...
Here was ver. 1.0...
The issue with this design is that with the pump sitting on the bottom-was on prefilter cage till it started colapsing- it sucked up the sand from the bottom of the tube. Also the lack of media height made filter pad swaps a total pain. The plumbing was dumb too!
Introducing ver. 2.0...
All of those scrubbies = $12!! 12 bags with 8ea 3" scrubbies from the DoItCenter online. I reused the plastic strapping and lava rock from 1.0, same pump (~900gph) and that pipe running through the middle is just to align the light diffuser material in the tube. Oh and a cut to fit filter material I had on top to disperse the water through all the media.
Plumbing consists of a plexi overflow -$15 on Craigslist- with a 1.25" clear tubing to the filter tube. Merky pic, but it is now clearing up nicely...
The Sump is a 15G high tank I didn't use when I set up my 'garage aquarium'.
