Hey guys, I have a 90 gallon tank, and I currently run two emperor 400 HOB's on it with some matrix rocks in the extra media containers. I have a Megaflow Model 2 sump also which isnt in use, and I want to hook it up to my 90. It says the model 2 is only enough for up to 75 gallons. Anyone know if the model 2 on its own would be a sufficient filter for my 90? Right now the tanks got a silver aro, motoro, and a black ghost knife (temporary home for them until I get a bigger setup). I suppose I could leave the HOB's on still also, but Id rather go with just the sump if I can (looks nicer, plus the motoro bangs into the intakes and knocks them off all the time, and I already get a lot of evaporation and will only get more with the sump). Thanks.

i say go for i mean you have other filters in there so you should be fine :)

Yea but I wanted to take off the HOB's and put them on a different tank as well. I think Im going to leave take one off after the sump cycles and take the other one and put it on the sump itself.

you could submerged a few bags of media (seachem matrix etc) in the sump to increase the bio capacity

What kind of bag would be good to submerge in the sump? I think Im going to put some bags of matrix rocks, what I mean is what should I use as the container?

And also, Ive never added a filter to an already established tank before. How long will the new sump take to cycle? I mean, there wont be any ammonia or nitrite spikes at all, both are at 0, so will it take forever to cycle? I dont want to take off one of the HOB's in a month and kill my fish.

You may get a little ammonia but not much, it will take it a few weeks to get established.

Alright, I think Im going to setup the megaflow 2 and put in about 4 liters of matrix in addition to the bioballs. That should do the trick. Plus some extra mechanical media in the overflow and in place of the floss that sits on top of the bioballs. I want to move the HOB's onto another tank that I have (dont want to buy another filter), but Ill give it a month and then move them one at a time and make sure nothing goes haywire. Thanks for the input. Still trying to figure out what type of container to put the matrix in btw if anyone has any good suggestions.
