What tank sizes have you kept them in that you find allows them the best movement and happiness?
I'd especially like to hear experiences from those who have grown them out from juveniles.

Thinking about them, but I don't want to get one until I have the tank that it'll will do good in.
Thanks all

ive had mine 6 yrs now... from 8" to 18"... some peoples grow quicker but i feel its safe to say there extremly slow growing cats after 12" . i cant attest that to a juvi 2-6" but id guess around the same. ive seen a couple monsters in my day 24" and 28", they were stunning specimens with beautiful patterns and probably 10yrs old +. they really start to look good around 18". tank recomendations imo would be a 55-75 gallon for a juvi...180-210gal for a sub adult and 300-500gal for an adult. There pretty inactive unless the lights are off or food is present and dont need much space. you could easily keep one for 5-10yrs in a standard 180gal as there pretty much a piece of moving driftwood lol... very peaceful also. id say there really isnt a specific type of tank for one thats better than others. ive kept mine in a community type setting with many different species of fish from cats to rays to gar to bass...etc...

Wednesday13 thank you that was really helpful, I'd never expected such a slow growth rate after 12 inches. I think I'll save up for a 180 gallon then :)

Welcome to MFK! So good to see someone responsible and doing their homework before committing to a fish (unlike me when I started).

My experience pretty much mirrors Wednesday's, FWIW.

Mine also don't take easy re-homing, as I observed several times. My current bunch of 6 has been transferred from 240 gal to 4500 gal two months ago. They piled up in one corner and have not come out during the feeding yet. It's as if they are holding a grudge against me :) :(Irwini and Co Fall 2015 3.JPG Irwini and Co Fall 2015.JPG

I agree about them not liking change. I boot mine out from under his driftwood when I gravel vac under it once a month. He turns into Mr. Crankypants and won't eat for a week after.

I'll take note of that behavior and keep things stable for them decor wise.
TBTB what type of catfish is that in the upper right hand corner of the first pic? They're the two brown and black ones that are half the size of a Megalodoras .
By the way that is an awesome pack of Megalodoras, I'm supper jealous.

Always happy to see a desirable addition to the family (of freaks).

I was jealous of myself but for the last 6-12 months I'm getting no action from them. Can only hope things will change. You can have a prettiest fish but if all you ever see is its rear end in the corner, that kind of puts a damper on the celebration of life.

In the photo, one is horseface catfish, a Heptapteridid, on the top, and a wood cat, galienatus, on the bottom.
