Hi' Guy's

I've noticed Wildwoods have a couple of these in at around 10cm , does anyone know the growth rate on them? I want them to go in a tank with Mrbled motoro rays , obviously they're too smal at this size but will they shoot up to around 10inch mark or so ? Also are they best kept the only Megalodoras irwini in the tank or are they ok with a couple?

Cheers

Ben

There is no megalodoras irwini. There is, however a megalodoras uranoscopus.
They prefer to be in groups as long as you have the space. Some people report slow growth while others report rapid growth. I suspect water quality and diet make the difference. They should be fed snails at the least, with more live food being better. I've always wanted one, but have settled for the 9" eigenmanni I have for now. If you have the space and money, you'll be kicking yourself later if you don't grab some of them. GL!

That's most liekly why i couldn't find to much information on them then! I'll consider getting one if they're still there in a month or two when i have some spare money (spent £500 this month already on fish ) , As for feeding snails presumably at 10cm there'd only be something like trumpet snails it'd be able to each at that size.
Water quality shouldnt be an issue as my tanks are over filterd and the main one has a 24/7water change system running.

I have 72x30x30 which i'd imagine would only be big enough for one when they reach maturity?

that reminds me! i do need to go up to wildwoods...just to look lol im lacking a tank now :(
thing is we cant really do feeders over here....u could get a pair of giant african landsnails, they do their stuff like rabbits, so constant supply of babies.

I suspect aquatic snails would be a more viable option. They cannot drown and foul the water if uneaten. Also, land snails require a lot more upkeep, whereas my mini-pond/snail culture only requires maintenance twice a year. Just saying.

As Chloe said we cannot really get feeders in the UK. I've not been to wildwoods before as im up in Cumbria, i've got fish deliverd and they were top class. I could try aquatic snails but would need to get a seperate tank setup somewhere as i have snakeheads in one, midas/red devil in another and Poly's and soon to be rays in another so the adults would get eaten. Will see about getting wildwoods to keep me one back.

I bought 2 from wharf this year and they both eat ALOT and they have bth doubled in size, the biggest being over 9" or nearer 10" now so that ones gone in the big tank for the moment,if you search my posts or threads you will see the progress,i feed mine massivore, jmc catfish pellets and sinking cichlid gold and whatever else i throw in they seem to eat.
I paid £27 for 4"ish from wharf fyi.

Smart will have a looksii at your threads tomorrow while at work, eyes are too tired to read much tonight, Do you have any squabbling between the two of them? Wildwoods are charging more than wharf then but wharf don;'t send fish. Dan @ tropical imports has one listed as 9-10" for £35 so might text him and see if he has it, i know he's cutting on down on tanks so might not have one now.

we will have to do a meet up there, that whole strip up the road is full of fish/rep shops!!!

must say i didnt think about the left over snails fouling the water...but id still go for GALS.
