Mekong Giants are farmed in Thailand fairly heavily for food. I'm in contact with a farm and so far have managed to have released 10 juveniles into the Mekong river. Being that the Mekong giants have trouble breeding in the wild due to dams I think this is important work. I'm trying to have a batch of 150 fry released into the river soon. If anyone wants the release video DM me as I can't post links yet or video. I thought people might find this interesting.

This sounds interesting, thank you for posting about your endeavours.

What is your motivation and planning for such releases? What part(s) of the river are you releasing to? How many fish will you eventually release over what period of time?

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to release several hundred thousand juvenile fingerlings over several kilometres by slow boat? Has thought been given to genetic diversity given these are farmed fish?

Do local fishermen still keep and kill large specimens for food? I'm told they are protected but traditional habitats would take decades to stop.
