one of my rbps got bit pretty good around his eye during feeding today...he seems to be alright (kept eating and is still holding down a choice hide spot) but it got me thinking that if constant minor injuries are going to be the reality in this tank it might be a good idea to use something like melafix (a natural antibioti, i believe its derived from tea tree oil?) to aid in healing.

im just not sure if its gonna screw with my biological filtration ...any thoughts?

has never screwed with my bio filter. i like the stuff for this sort of application but it's no good for hardcore treatment contrary to the labeling.

Yes, use the melafix but only if there are open wounds persent. There is no need to use all the time. Keeping water in top quality with low nitrates will aid in quick healing.

cool, appreciate the feedback guys...even after one day his eye looks almost completely healed

its amazing how resilient they really are.

ill be sure to keep an eye on the nitrates although I've never had a problem with them in any of my tanks, infact most of the time i have to add it to keep my plants growing. Im a huge believer in the benefits of live plants, i really cant imagine setting up a tank w/o them.
