Has anyone use Melafix to treat their aro for split tail and scale? What is the behavior of your aro when using it? Mine seem to gasp for air. I have extra air stone for this purpose. Does your aro lose it's appetite, discoloration? Thanks

I've used melafix/pimafix combo to treat fungus around the mouth at one point, and no problems. Behavior was the same. Appetite was the same, and no changes in color. I treated the dosage 50gal less than recommended per bottle's directions, but did treat it for 10 days and was successful and no complaints.
In your case, just pristine water will cure split fins/tails naturally. Just keep an eye out on the tank mate as the damage can be worse.. Separate them if needed to avoid possible deaths..
Good luck.

after 6days of treatment, i did a 25% water change.... i know this is not what the treatment calls for. I notice that when i'm treating him with this solution he doesn't eat. After the 25% water change he's active and eating (not 100%).....do you also clean the filter after the water change?

My aro had an open wound that's why i'm using this product.

I always add an aerator during melafix use...

From what I've read, melafix is more damaging than good with betta's.

I believe they made a betta-specific form of melafix called "bettafix".

My GF's betta died due to using bettafix.

are you sure it was because of the bettafix? i've never used that product (i don't keep bettas), hell i've only used melafix once or twice.

Based on what she said.
I wasn't around then, to know nor witness what happend.
Like I mentioned, I've read that melafix and bettafix does more damage to fish with the that organ allowing it to breathe air.

I've used melafix/pimafix for years now for anything from Clown loaches to my Oscars, and everything inbetween includeing my fire eels. and using it atm on my silver who got smacked around by my gar. I treat 1/2 dos rec on sensitive species. It's potent stuff. and just like any other good med, ODing a tank with it can be deadly. If the fish is gasping my suggestion is to lower the dose your using. I'm new to Arrows.. but my guy is doing wonderful in his sick tank w/ the 1/2 dos I'm using. eating, swimming, no sign of pregressive degeneration of the wound. I've noticed w/ this med.. the fish looks the same for days.. then bam.. he's all healed up. or so it seems. I've found less is more with this Med line.
