I'm sure most know this already but just wanted to let others know.

My tiger Oscar beat up my albino tiger, meaning nipped a few fins and attacked his body. I'm trying to sell these guys so I bought some Melafix(I love this stuff for wounds and frayed fins and stuff of that sort) for the tank. I started dosing Sunday morning and started to notice that they were gasping a little bit when I went to sleep. No biggie I thought, then woke up Monday morning and saw that they were gasping very badly. The tiger Oscar usually had a black color and it went totally gray(it has only done this once and this is when I saved him) so I knew it wasn't looking good.

So I added 2 airlines with two air stones. Nothing major just 2 small air stones. I did this after I got off of work (1pm) and noticed that night that they seemed to get a little better. Woke up today and all was well, the black on the tiger was all back and perfect. They weren't gasping for air either. :D:D:D I think I did a pretty good job on acting fast and coming up with a simple idea to fix the problem. Im very proud, lol.

So if your using Melafix you might want to hook up an air stone just in case. The Melafix must use or break down the oxygen some how. Just wanted to let others know this. I mean it's only an air line and completely worth the 5 minutes of setting it up for saving the life of our fish.

Oh yeah and the Melafix is working very good on the albino. It's only been 3 days and almost completely healed. I know some don't suggest chemicals but I do to an extent. Please don't ruin this thread with bashing, just want to maybe help others if this happens. :D:D:D

thanx for sharing
i have a bottle at home
but never used it yet
never had to

thanx for the advice though

I love the stuff, i use it in conjunction with Pimafix. but yeah i always run an airpump but they don't seem to be gasping much the filter return churns up the surface rather well and i can see lots of mico-fine bubbles. it has a funky smell kinda like Vicks haha. DUDE PEAL BACK THE LABEL it states that WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER OR BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! sketchy!!!!

i noticed this as well when i had to treat my tank its the best thing to do if your using these products

Ive noticed it clouds the water too. good post.

huh??? you musta got a VERY bad batch! melafix is clear...

Oh btw, i know for a fact it disolves oxygen. most people who dont use air stones wont know this. but if you can afford a teaspoon of melafix just to see what happends then get a clear jug and fill it with water, place the airstone on the bottom of the container with air pumping through it. when you place a teaspoon of melafix into the water, the bubbles become MUCH much smaller! almost like the water becomes an alcoholic base. regular water shoots out big bubbles.

also, ive never had to add any extra D.O. to my tank since my filtration system drops the water pretty far to make lots of air bubbles.

this is to humans. not fish. and its more of a chemical reaction to the iron in your blood that causes the cancer.

yeah i care more about my human body than i do my fish buddies sorry there Retuks. what if it absorbs through the skin eh? lots of chems do that. who give a crap anymore everything else in the worlds gonna give ya cancer anyway!
