I was under the impression that I bought melamine... but right now its warping do to moisture

Melamine is the plastic that has made its way into the food stream in China, it was implicated in the pet food and infant formula scandals.

When you buy melamine for cabinetry it is melamine coated particle board. It is moisture-resistant, but definitely not moisture-proof.
