Melanochromis color change

I bought 5 melanochromis johanni 2 orange,1 blue,1 black and 1 yellow, i was wandering when do they start color changing?, is it possible to identify who's a boy or a girl they're 1.5 cm

Well the males are blue and black, and the females are orangeish.

At that length it is still too difficult to vent them They need to be between 3-4cm before you can clearly see the holes for venting. Catch the fish, turn them over and look at the holes. Females have one small and one big hole whilst males have two small holes. Most Melanochromis males change colour which makes it easy to tell. The only confussion might be with a less dominant male who can remain the colouring of the female. Post some pics.

Yea melanochromis can be a pain in the ass to sex. They hide sexes well unless the males are dominate.
