In a 1979 article, Loiselle describes two giant melanochromis species, unidentified as sp 1 and sp 2 (https://cichlidae.com/article.php?id=80) . As of now, all melanochromis have been classified and sp 1 has been confirmed as robustus (https://www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2012/f/zt03258p027.pdf). Does anyone know if sp 2 has actually been confirmed. I think kaskazini would fit, but its not very giant compared to chipokae, besides its not really black and white like loiselle described it.

Yea I suspected kaskazini too but no melanochromis from tanzania was in the hobby in 1979 when sp 2 was described so I'm not sure if kaskazini is it.
