I'm Where I'm At
So a family member is gonna have a baby soon. There is a "party for the baby" thing going on this month.

I told my wife I don't do baby showers, as she already knows. But she's trying to convince me to go and telling me well, so and so is bringing their husband and it's not really a baby shower but more like a gathering and bbq.

I told her, nah, I know the people that's gonna be there and I know how they get down when it comes to these things. I've seen the games they play and the things they do and the decorations,....... because at some point they threw my wife a baby shower and I was home watching tv in the other room. I've also seen a couple of my brothers give up their man cards and attended these showers being the only men there. screw that

I want no part of this and I refuse. Baby showers are for women and men who hold purses while their women try on 500 clothing items they don't intend to buy. and i'm neither so I ain't falling for the "party for the baby" thing.

what are your thoughts?

I'm with you 110%!!! I got suckered into one of these supposed 'prebaby parties' once. It was a baby shower. Just call it what it is and don't invite men and we won't invite you to bachelor parties. Somethings should stay traditional.

We dont have that kind of prebaby parties here but..if there is whole bunch of a women, why not to feed your eyes? And if wife gets pissed off, you still have an excuse that she insisted that you join this party so its practically her fault ;)

Good for you Sumo! You tell her, "I'm the Man, woman!" "I'm not going to no damn...." - ooh, gotta go, wife is coming [log off]

My wife is having her baby shower later this month for our first. I also stated that I would not be in attendance, to which she responded "you're not supposed to be." Needless to say, I was relieved. I'm with you on not going, but bottom line is that men/husbands/boyfriends/whatever aren't really supposed to be there anyway.

Along a similar line of thought, have you heard of the get together the soon to be father is supposed to have? Apparently it's called a diaper party. You invite your guy friends over; the only option for a gift is diapers; and you sit around and get drunk. I'm considering having one of these for myself. Seems about my speed.

I've heard about diaper parties

imho, it sounds pretty weird. I know it's just an excuse to hang out and chill with friends but it just sounds too weird to invite my boys to my "diaper" party

Yeah, I suppose this would work out better at say like Giselle Bundchen's baby shower with all her Victoria Secret friends attending

I was told that it was a girl's night/baby shower when we had ours. It wasn't at our house, and I was not there.

That being said, if I was asked to go, I probably would have.
