A couple of weeks ago, i had moved my 4 Crenicichla menezesi into a 125 that also housed a pair of Cryptoheros cutteri, a female Amphilophus nourissati, a Petenia splendida (red form), a group of 4 rainbowfish, and a gibbiceps pleco. Yesterday, I noticed that 2 of the 4 menezesi were getting beaten pretty badly, as was the female nourissati...so i moved them out. The female was displaying a nice red belly and tube:

(the flash washes out lots of the red belly...also, the tank is 6' off the ground, so I'm on a ladder, not much ability to get a good angle to prevent the flash from being an issue...)

Today, I found this:

World's worst pic, but the best I could do. The spawning site is only visible from the end of the tank, which (believe it or not) I never clean...so lots of water spots on the glass. As a result, the auto-focus has a hard time. Also, the flash...I can't get a good angle to keep the flash from being an issue and ALSO get the eggs in the shot. This is the best of about 12 shots. Now I'll have to decide where to move the other fish, since I MUST keep these fry alive!

I was beginning to wonder... Something about the move to the 125 did it. As soon as I had the nourissati out (she had claimed the area where they ended up spawning), they got to it!

Wiping down the glass on the end of a tank that's 6' off the ground is not likely to happen. Also, at this point, I'm not interested in "threatening" the spawning site. I don't think I'll need to worry too much about it...probably no photo opportunities until there are free-swimming fry.

Very cool!! Can't wait for the updates!

Why the heck is your tank 6' off the ground??? Just curious how that works.

It's on the top shelf of a 3-shelf pallet rack in the garage. I've got a 150 (6'x2') on the middle shelf (prime location), and the bottom shelf has a 90 and a 50-breeder. This tank is the highest tank in my fishroom, currently. With a ladder, it's fairly easy to work on, but I don't have the same ease of movement for photography that I would have on a lower shelf.

That is one of the prettiest sax type pikes I've seen yet. Great job! :headbang2
